“You would look so pretty in it!”

“No! There’s no way I’m wearing something that… That PINK!”

“What’s wrong with pink?”

“Um, just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean I like pink! And also, it’s frilly! I don’t do frills, Toni!”

Your older brother looked between you and the dress he was waving in front of you, running his fingers through his dark, wavy brown hair.

“P-Pero… It’s so cute! Why won’t you at least try it on?” Antonio begged you for what felt like the hundredth time. You were about to crack and wear the stupid dress, but it was so… So pink!

“I’m sorry, but I really don’t want to wear it, Toni!” You sighed, sitting down on your bed with a huff. “Why do you want me to wear this dress so badly anyways?”

“This is your first party! I want to show off how adorable mi hermana menor is!” He grinned, slipping into his native tongue of Spanish.

“I don’t see why I can’t go in jeans and a shirt like normal people.” You grumbled.

“Well, SOMEONE has to wear this dress!” He laughed lightly, sitting next to you on the bed. “And I promise, you don’t want it to be me!”

You let out a laugh, breaking underneath the Spaniard’s general cheeriness.

“Fine, jeez, I’ll wear the dumb dress!” You grabbed it out of his hands, and he clapped and laughed. “I won’t like it though.”

“Trust me, you will!” He stood up, leaving your room and closing the door. “Come out when you’re done, it’s almost time to go!” He called through the wood, and you started changing. The dress fit you pretty well, which surprised you. You were really very short, so it was difficult to find dresses that were just the right size. You noticed there was a shorter white dress, almost an apron, that had been placed beside the dress. You quickly slipped this on also, smiling despite yourself.

You slowly opened the door to your room, stepping out in the frilly pink dress and standing in front of your brother. Antonio looked you up and down, grinning.

“_______! You are SOO CUTE IN THAT!” He hugged you, squeezing you until you felt like your ribs were going to crack.

“T-Toni… Can’t… Breathe!!!” You told him, and he quickly let go, his grin still spread from ear to ear. You unconsciously smoothed out the dress, which just made him laugh more.

“Oh! I almost forgot!” Toni pulled out a white bandana, tying your hair back inside of it so that your face and bangs peeked out from beneath the soft white cloth. “There we go! Perfecto!”

“Is this completely necessary?”

“Si. Let’s go, vamanos!” He grabbed your hand, pulling you quickly out the front door and to the car. “We don’t want to be late, today is a really special day!”

<^><^><^><^>

“Toni!” Shortly after knocking on the door, you and your brother were greeted by an albino man that looked about the same age as your brother. “Vhere have you been? Hurry up und get in here!” His accent was that of a thick German dialect, and his grin was cocky and sure of itself.

“Gracias! Sorry for being late, Gil!” Antonio hugged his friend, then pulled you inside after him.

“Who’s zhis?” Gil grinned at you after shutting the door. “Are you Toni’s little sister, frau?”

“Yeah.” You nodded, trying not to be awkward.

“Awesome! I’ve heard un lot about you… _______, ja?”

“Yeah.” You repeated, and Gil laughed.

“No need to be scared, frau, I don’t bite!”

“Gilbert, stop torturing zhe poor girl.” A tall blonde walked up behind the albino, bopping him on the head with his fist. “Can’t you see she’s uncomfortable?”

“I was just saying hallo! Jeez…” Gilbert rubbed his head walking off in the other direction, followed closely by Toni.

“Zhat man is going to be zhe death of me some day…” The blonde muttered, slicking his blonde hair back with a large hand. “I’m Ludwig, by zhe vay.”

“_______, it’s nice to meet you.” You replied, sticking your hand out for him to shake. He took it, smiling a little. “Are you friends with Gilbert and Antonio?”

“Not exactly. Toni and mein bruder tend to leave me alone.” He replied.

“Brother?”

“Ja, Gilbert is mein older bruder.” He let go of your hand, sticking it into his pocket. Ludwig was dressed pretty casually, and you couldn’t help but feel out of place in your dress. Stupid Toni…

“I wouldn’t have guessed!” You laughed, watching Gil running around talking to everyone in the other room. “You seem rather different, it’s amazing.”

“I could say zhe same for you und Toni, but I don’t really know you all zhat vell.” Ludwig followed your gaze, scowling a little at his brother’s behavior. However, you could see happiness sparkling behind his deep blue eyes.

“No, you got me there.” You looked down at your dress. “Toni and I tend to disagree on a lot of things…”

“Ah, vell, zhat’s siblings for you.” He made his way towards the room everyone was hanging out in, looking over his shoulder at you. “Coming, _______?”

“Um, yeah, be right there!” You told him, and he shrugged, then continued walking. You looked at the ceiling, trying very hard not to blush. He was way too hot.

You considered running outside and waiting for Toni in the car, but decided that you would only regret it later. You hurried to follow Ludwig, walking into the warm living room and smiling at everyone in an attempt how uncomfortable you felt being there.

You were uncomfortable talking to strangers, so you decided to stick with Ludwig. You found him leaning against a wall, the relaxed posture somehow appearing rigid and practiced. You leaned next to him on the wall, easily telling that he was also feeling awkward in the crowd of his brother’s friends.

“Out of curiosity, vhy did you come to zhe party if you don’t know anyvone?” Ludwig asked out of the blue, looking down at you again.

“I don’t know… Toni really seemed to want me to come, and he kept talking about a friend of his he wanted me to meet.”

“Who?”

“Some guy named Lovino.” You shrugged; the name meant little to you, the only time you heard it was when Toni was saying the name over the phone.

“Oh, I know him.” Ludwig frowned a little. “He’s mein best friend’s older bruder. He’s alright… Vonce you get used to him. But even zhen he’s kind of annoying.”

“It’s amazing how many annoying older brothers exist around here!” You laughed, and Ludwig did too.

“Ja, who vould have known?” You laughed again, and Ludwig smiled. You were glad you had found someone to talk to at the party. You were worried you were going to end up Toni’s third wheel.

“LUDWIG!!!” A high pitched squeal erupted from across the room. You looked up to see a young, bouncy boy coming inside, running straight towards you and Ludwig. His hair was a light brown color, midlength and relatively straight save for a stray hair that stood up off of his messy locks and curled. His wide amber eyes sparkled, and within a few seconds he had crossed the room and hugged Ludwig, not even slowing down to give the German time to register what was happening.

“Feliciano, STOP IT!” Ludwig growled, trying to pry the bubbly boy off of him.

“Ve! Ludwig, I’m-a so glad you came!” Feliciano chirped in a squeaky Italian accent. Ludwig tried once again to get him to stop hugging him, then let his arms drop with a sigh.

“It’s nice to see you too, Feli…” Ludwig told him, waiting patiently for the hug therapy to stop. “May I introduce mein acquaintance, _______?” Feli let go of Ludwig, turning to look at you.

“Ow! What a pretty girl! Is it-a just me or have-a we met before though if you can’t-a remember that’s-a fine because I made it up anyways, but-a maybe we can get to-a know each other if you know what I-a mean, babe!” Feliciano bounced from foot to foot, beaming and staring at you in excitement. He spoke very quickly, slipping in and out of Italian and occasionally squeaking randomly or yelling “Ve!”

“Woah, um, I caught about half of that…” You told him, trying to slow down what he had just said in your mind. “I’m going to assume you are the friend Ludwig was telling me about.”

“Ja, zhis is Feliciano.” Ludwig interrupted the Italian before he could continue, also not completely able to keep up with the speed of his conversation.

“It’s nice to meet you, Feli!”

“The pleasure’s all-a mine!” Feliciano grinned at you, and you giggled.

“So, you’re Lovino’s younger brother?”

“Si! Why?”

“My brother Toni wanted me to meet him.”

“Ah, you’re big brother Antonio’s little sister? Fantastico!”

“Big brother?” You looked at Ludwig for an explanation.

“Since Toni and Lovino spend so much time togezher, Feli started calling him big bruder.” Ludwig explained.

“Kyaa? How did you-a know that? Are you-a reading my mind, STOP IT THAT’S-A CREEPY!” Feliciano started freaking out, wringing his hands and swinging his head from side to side as he prepared for another rant.

“YOU TOLD ME ZHAT!” Ludwig informed him loudly, not wanting to listen to the Italian rant again.

“Oh yeah…” Feli laughed, looking around the room. “_______, do you want-a me to bring you to my fratello?”

“Yes, thanks.” You took Feli’s extended hand, and he pulled you through the group of people until you were standing behind a small group. It was Toni and his friend Gil, who were talking to a young man that resembled Feli in hair style and stature, except that his hair and skin were a little darker. All three of them had their backs to you.

“Lovino!” Feli tapped on the shoulder of the boy you had already assumed was his brother.

“What-a do you want, Feli-“ Lovino twirled around, already in the middle of giving his brother a death glare. He stopped mid-sentence when he saw you, his mouth opening to form words but none coming out.

“_______! I was just telling Lovi about you!” Toni grinned and you smiled back, feeling awkward with the Italian staring at you.

“You… She… Toni!!” Lovino glared at your brother, blushing furiously. “What the hell is wong with you?!”

“Lovi, calm down!” Toni put his hand on the shorter boy’s shoulder, who shrugged it off angrily.

“What? What’s wrong?” You asked, but Lovino ignored you. Turning abruptly on his foot, he left the room even faster than his brother had entered it.

“Lovi, wait!” Toni started to follow him, but Gil grabbed his arm.

“I don’t zhink he vants to talk to you right now, Toni…” Gil told the Spaniard, who sighed. Toni nodded, crossing his arms and watching the Italian run out the door.

“You’re just going to let him run off?” You asked Toni. Usually your brother would run after anyone who seemed down, cheering them up. “Without even asking why he’s mad?”

Toni didn’t say anything, and Gilbert laughed a little to see you grilling the older boy. You rolled your eyes; if he wasn’t going to do anything, it was time to take things into your own hands. After all, he did run off after seeing you, and you wanted to know why.

Exiting the house, you could see him standing under a street lamp about a block away. His arms were crossed, his back against the pole and his head lowered in thought. You quickly walked down the driveway and along the sidewalk towards him.

“Hey, Lovino?” He started, looking up at you as you came underneath the street light. “Are you okay?”

“Idiota, I came out-a here to be alone!” He snapped at you, staring up at the sky with a scowl. You frowned, moving so you were standing directly in front of him and crossing your arms.

“That’s not what I asked. Why did you run away when you saw me?”

“Hmph. It’s-a none of your concern.”

“Yes it is!” You told him, starting to get annoyed. When he remained quiet, you grabbed at a stray curl on the side of his head and pulled on it.

“Chigii!! STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!” He screamed, smacking at your hand and blushing furiously.

“Then tell me!” You hadn’t meant to annoy him this much, but whatever worked.

“OKAY JUST STOOP!!” You let go of his hair, and he straightened up again, fixing his curl and glaring at you. After a moment, he closed his eyes. “It’s-a… Mine.”

“What?”

“Mine, it’s-a mine!” He repeated, going out of his way to avoid your gaze.

“What’s yours?”

“The… The dress.” Now he was REALLY blushing, and so were you.

“This dress is yours?” You fought the urge to laugh at the absolute absurdity of this situation. “Care to tell me why you have a dress?”

“It’s-a… Well… My grandpa, when me and my fratello were-a kids, put us in-a dresses. He thought that-a carrying around a pair of cute-a little girls would be a real chic magnet.” He was looking you in the eye now, and he paused to swallow before continuing. “When he-a died, me and my fratello ended up-a wearing them for a while anyways, partially because-a we didn’t have anything else to-a wear and partially because a lot of-a people thought we were-a girls.”

“I’m sorry… I didn’t know…” You weren’t sure what to say. The annoying, thick-headed boy you thought he was had nearly disappeared.

“Idiota ragazza. You didn’t-a do anything.” Lovino glared back at the house. “It’s-a Toni’s fault for not-a telling you.”

“I hate it when he does stuff like this. Leaving out important details!” You ignored the comment about you being stupid, assuming he was just trying to protect his pride by shrugging off your pity. After a few minutes, you smiled, taking his hand.

“We should probably go back inside.” You told the blushing Italian. He pulled his hand out of yours, shoving it in his pocket.

“Yeah, whatever.” He grumbled. But he kept pace with you as you headed back up towards the house.

“_______!” Toni waved at you as you and Lovino entered the party once more. “Lovi! Hey, what’s up?”

Lovino glared at Toni, something he was apparently very good at. He grabbed your wrist, steering you away from your brother and his friends. Spying Ludwig, you waved at him, signaling for him to follow you. He nodded, moving away from the wall and shouldering his way through the crowd, a bouncy Feli at his heels. After about half of a minute, Lovino had found the four of you a relatively empty pocket within the crowd.

“Vhere did you two run off too?” Ludwig asked you, ignoring Lovino’s glares.

“Who invited you, eh?” Lovino scowled at the German, his neck craned back to look the taller boy in the eye.

“_______.” Ludwig grunted, then turned back to you.

“We were outside, talking.” You told him, and Lovino looked at you in surprise.

“Don’t-a talk to the potato eater!” He leaned over so only you could hear what he was saying. “He’s crazy!”

“You’re one to talk!” You whispered back, laughing. Lovino blinked, then backed away from you again, crossing his arms and pretending not to be interested in the conversation.

“Well, whatever! Now we are all-a together and we can-a have fun, ve!” Feli bounced up and down, grinning. “Lovino, dance-a with me!”

“Hell no.”

“Lovino!”

“NO. I don’t-a want to dance with-a you, that’s-a so gay!”

Feli didn’t listen; instead, he grabbed his brother’s hands and started spinning him around, much to Lovino’s distaste.

“FELICIANO STOP IT!”

“Ve!”

Ludwig laughed, and you snickered at the sight of their wobbly dance. The tall German looked down at you, and you smiled at him.

“Vould you like to dance too, _______?” He asked, a slight blush creeping up his cheeks. You took the hand he extended towards you shyly, nodding a yes.

Ludwig wasn’t a very good dancer. His movements were rigid, lacking the relaxed fluidity required for the party music that boomed throughout the house. When you pointed this out, he scowled and did his best to loosen up.

“You need to relax, Ludwig!” You scolded him playfully.

“Sorry…” He mumbled, narrowing his eyes in concentration as he tried to relax his dancing.

“Stop thinking about it and just dance!” You squeezed his hands, waving your arms around in time with the music. He laughed at your noodle dance, letting his arms fly in the air with yours. The music changed to a new song, and Feli finally released his brother’s hands.

“New partner!” He cheered.

“I’LL DANCE WITH _______!” Lovino and Feliciano yelled at the same time. They looked at each other, then proceeded to have a slappy fight until Feliciano finally gave up and grabbed Ludwig’s hand. Smirking, Lovino took your hand, giving you a good twirl before he proceeded to dance with you.

Lovino danced with a practiced skill, a fluid rhythm that could only be obtained from years of music flowing through him. It was beautiful, and fun. And it was making Ludwig give Lovino a look.

“Having fun, ragazza?” Lovino seemed much more relaxed when the beat of the music was circling around him.

“Yeah, actually!” You laughed, spinning again so that the skirts of your dress flared out. “Nice to see you can do something other than being grumpy, Lovino!”

“Oh, shut up and-a dance!” He scowled at you, and you laughed. And Ludwig glared.

<^><^><^><^>

“_______, wake up!” Someone shook your shoulder and you grunted. “_______!”

“No. I’m sleeping, go away.” You grumbled, half-asleep. You heard someone laugh, then pick you up. Annoyed, you opened one eye wearily, looking up at Toni’s smiling face.

“It’s time to go home, chica! You look partyed out!” Toni chuckled, and you rolled your eyes, shutting your lids tight again. You had spent the entire rest of the night dancing with Ludwig, Feli, and Lovino. It had been fun, but tiring.

You turned your head, then blushed furiously. Without even realizing it, you had fallen asleep next to Ludwig, who was now blinking awake at the lack of your warm body next to his.

“Put me down!” You hissed, fully awake now. Toni dropped you lightly, and you stood up, smoothing out your dress.

“Vhat? Is zhe party done already?” Ludwig yawned, stretching. He elbowed Feli in the side, who didn’t even budge. Ludwig rolled his eyes, bending down so he could mutter in his best friend’s ear. “I vonce killed a man vizh nozhing but un grape und his own mustache…”

“I DON’T WANNA DIE!!” Feliciano woke up screaming, terrified of what had just entered his dream world. His screaming woke up his brother, who jumped up, ready to run for his life.

“CHIGI!! WHY ARE WE-A DYING?!”

“NO VONE IS DYING!” Ludwig yelled over the Italians, and they grew silent. “Ve are just going home, zhe party is over!”

“I knew that, you potato-eating bastardo!” Lovino growled, grumpy from being woken up.

“Right, vhatever floats your boat…” Ludwig grunted, standing up. Feli wearily pulled himself up after him, taking Lovino’s hand and letting his brother lead him out of the house. You turned to follow them and your brother, but Ludwig grabbed your hand.

“Hey, _______...” You blushed at the sudden contact, and he let your hand drop. “I zhink I’ve seen you at school. Do you attend (school name)?”

“Yes, I do.”

“Do you vant to sit vizh me und Feli tomorrow at lunch?”

“Y-Yeah! Sounds great!”

“Great!” Ludwig smiled a little, then turned to grab his jacket. “See you tomorrow, zhen!” And with that, he was gone, out the door.

You felt a smile grow on your lips. You couldn’t wait for tomorrow.
